I've never really been into dogs, on the farm dogs really are man's best friend (as they do most of the running about for us) and I've got used to having them around. Actually I've gotten so used to them that I'm beginning to get to know their odd little personalities.
So in order to show you a little of my life right now, (and to break up a persistent writer's block) I thought that I would introduce you to the Tawata road wolfpack.
Likes: Chewing on pebbles, carrying pebbles around in his mouth, making little stashes of pebbles.
Dislikes: Pat
Ruff
Good at: Sitting at your feet and looking at you with the most ridiculous smiley expression, poking your leg. That's it, that's all he does.
Likes: Attention, pats on the head, dinner time, looking into your eyes.
Dislikes: Working, fences (as a concept also) and being ignored
Pat
My usual perspective, dog running away, barking. |
Good at: Unknown.
Likes: Richard and Brigette, feeding time.
Dislikes: John, in fact this dog hates my guts.
Lass
Running rings, literally. |
Deepening the rut... |
Demented |
Good at: Rounding up sheep and cattle and doing pretty much the opposite to what she is told to do, just for kicks.
Likes: Staring at sheep, sneaking a bite on a sheep when no-one is looking. Rolling in Dags (wool sheared from the ass end of a sheep as it is caked in shit). Pats on the head. Barking at sheep from a moving vehicle. Running around the kennels a zillion times.
Dislikes: Unmolested sheep. Other bitches.
She's a good girl, yes she is! Yes she is!
Loz
Good at: Killing things, unfortunately it's lambing time... Making awful howling noises.
Likes: Being let out of her kennel.
Dislikes: Being locked away for the safety of the other animals.
2BAD |
Good at: Loud barking, looking scary (to sheep), circular tail wagging, eating lots, talking like Ray Winstone.
Likes: Sleeping in the sun, bitches on heat, pats on the head.
Dislikes: Trips to the vet, having toes amputated after being driven crazy at night by pheromones and trying to tunnel out through chicken wire. Thunder and other loud noises.
He's a good boy, yes he is, yes he is! |
Favourite spot |
Good at: Being really old, walking and pissing simultaneously, retirement.
Likes: Saying hello. Toilet breaks, frequent toilet breaks.
Dislikes: All these young'ens, running about like they own the place.
The Chicken Sorry, it was too quick, no photo!
The Bear Grylls of poultry, a feathered tough-guy or just incredibly lucky. Has managed to survive long after the other chucks have been killed by an overly playful dog, rats or a hungry possum at night. Remarkably it seems to do this by staying as close as possible to the dogs, living under the kennels most of the time and running around the farm in defiance of death, and my driving.
